MURUDESWARAR TEMPLE, KARNATAKA INDIA


The Murudeswarar temple is dedicated to worshipping Lord Murudeswarar considered to be one of the forms of Lord Shiva. This temple situated in India in the state of Karnataka. The temple has one gripping thing is that it is surrounded by Arabian Sea from three sides.



The temple premises begins with a twenty storied Gopuram. Besides that the thing that makes it was more bewitching is the location a huge statue of Lord Shiva which is the second largest statue in India. The main deity is Sri Mridesa Linga also called as Murudeswarar. The Linga is believed to be a piece of original Atma Linga and is about two feet below the ground level. The devotees performing special sevas like Abhisheka, Rudrabhiseka, Rathotsava and many more can view the deity by standing before the threshold of the sanctum and the Linga is illuminated by oil lamps held close by the priests.The Linga is essentially a rough rock inside hollowed spot  in the ground. Entry into the sanctum is banned from all devotees.
